Vegaster 7 – 7 Celebrity Chefs Pleasing the Vegas Palate
Giada De Laurentiis – The Cromwell Hotel was lucky enough to grab Giada for her first venture into the restaurant biz. Having done the celebrity chef thing on T.V. for years, it was not a minute to soon for the hottie to bring her flair for Italian food to the masses. From the classics like spaghetti and meatballs, to refined eats like rosemary focaccia, each dish hits the spot just like an Italian mama’s should. When you do make the trip to GIADA take our advice and hit up the antipasto bar. Nothing can beat a fresh array of Italian cheeses and meats with fresh baked breads.
Bobby Flay – The rumors of Bobby Flay dating Giada may or may not be true, but there is no denying that Bobby knows a great burger. Bobby’s Burger Palace can be found right in front of City Center and takes you on a hamburger journey around the US, complete with a layer of potato chips. If you want a more refined Bobby Flay, check out his grilling talent at Mesa Grill inside of Caesars. This is a southwestern themed restaurant not afraid of a little spice. Of course if a restaurant is going with a chipotle and chili sauce theme, they need the right array of tequila to back it up, and Mesa Grill does not miss a mezcal.
Michael Mina – Michael Mina has taken over the culinary scene in Vegas with 4 distinct restaurants on the strip. There is his self named and easy to find Michael Mina Bellagio, an award winning seafood restaurant that has a superior selection of fresh fish flown in daily. Then we escape from the sea to Stripsteak at the Mandaly Bay, where the highest quality meats are cooked to your interpretation of perfection. Bardot Brassiere is modern French inside of the Aria, while the MGM’s Pub 1842 is a refreshingly simple sampling of American pub favorites, right down to the massive amount of beer to choose from.
Wolfgang Puck – Puck was a celebrity chef before the world even knew what that meant. He was also on the strip way before any of the others and now has 6 Vegas restaurants to call home. The very first was Spago at the Forum Shops, fine American cuisine with a touch of Puck magic. CUT is in the Grand Canal Shoppes and is a cut above the rest of your high end steakhouses. The Mandaly Bay is home to Trattoria Del Lupo, Puck’s very first authentic Italian restaurant. Scaled down Italian can be found at Wolfgang Puck Pizzeria & Cucina at the Shops at Crystals. This is rustic Italian made only with the highest quality ingredients. There are 2 locations for Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill. The first it at the MGM, and the second is off the strip in nearby Summerlin. Both are fine dining, but in an atmosphere that feels more like your neighborhood pub.
Mario Batali – Mario Batali has taken his formal culinary training and energetic personality and turned them into an empire. With 4 restaurants to delight Vegas visitors, this American chef knows good food, and is not afraid to share it. Burger & Beer at the Venetian is the type of restaurant you can walk into and know exactly what’s in store while B&B Ristorante delivers a distinct Italian taste that takes your taste buds straight to Venice. OTTO is another Batali Italian dream inside of the Venetian that specializes in fun, cool tastes of Italy like thin crust pizzas and full on antipasto specialties. Batali took his steakhouse vision to the Palazzo with Carenvino, an upscale restaurant that takes classic meat dishes to a whole new level of decadence.
Julian Serrano – Julian Serrano is a big name that loves to tease our palates with tiny dishes. Tapas inside of the Aria is a perfect example of this, as guests are treated to perfectly sized portions of authentic Spanish dishes like pancetta and stuffed anchovies. The Bellagio is home to another Serrano sensation, The Picasso. This 5 diamond restaurant delights all of the senses, featuring country style dishes from France and Spain, a barrage of Picasso works of art at every turn, and an unobstructed view of the Bellagio fountains and beyond. The latest from Serrano, Lago, opened on April 21st also at the Bellagio. Lago is Serrano’s full fledged venture into Italian fare, and has already been declared one of the most beautiful restaurants in Vegas, with an exceptional and unique variety of Italian treats.
Joel Robuchon – The celebrity chef with the most stars in the world, Joel Robuchon has happily brought his stellar quality to Vegas 2 times at the same hotel. Considered to be on the casual side of French cuisine is L’Atelier, an open – air kitchen at the MGM where you can feel comfortable at a counter spot watching your foie gras stuffed quail being made to order. Next door is the more formal Joel Robuchon, which can only be described as exquisite from the fine décor to the rich and creamy French filled menu.
It’s simple to get a burger wrong, and even simpler to get it passable. But it takes finesse to make one that makes you wish you had room in your stomach for 3 or 4.
