The Vegaster 7: Top 7 Casual Dining Restaurants in Vegas
The Beach Bar and Grill: Rocker Sammy Hagar traded in his guitar for a chain of restaurants that are not only serving up some great grub, they are helping millions of needy kids in the process. We did our part with a plate of “Poppin” dogs and quesadillas. Excellent Mexican flare in both dishes, especially coming from a blonde haired heavy metal artist.
Best Grub Pick: The “Poppin” dogs had it until I dug into the ultimate chocolate blackout cake. Sammy may not be able to drive 55, but his dessert menu is Van-tastic
Margaritaville: Another musician, another great place to chill out and eat food with your hands. Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville is just like his songs; fun, well done and unforgettable. Of course you can have your cheeseburgers in paradise, but we went for some Jimmy Jammin’ Jambalaya and Coconut Shrimp. Close your eyes, take a bite, and you are suddenly swinging in a hammock in the Caribbean.
Best Grub Pick: The drink menu. The whole darn thing. Cleverly concocted with names like Booze in the Blender and Who’s to Blame, you actually end up humming while choosing between them all.
Tequila Taqueria: Serving the best in Mexican food, Tequila Tanqweia is inside of Bally’s. Open practically 24/7, we hit this hot spot after a night out for some $2 tacos and Tecate. This is more like a fiesta than a restaurant, with latin music pumping and tequila shots being passed around like popsicles.
Best Grub Pick: Huevos rancheros. A signature Mexican breakfast item, this is the perfect too drunk to care food. A little bit comfort and a lot of spice, and you’ll be sleeping off that hangover in no time.
P.F. Changs: A highly popular chain restaurant across the country, the P.F. Chang’s Vegas is inside of the Planet Hollywood and offers the same great menu, taste and atmosphere that you expect. What is so loveable about P.F. Changs is that even though it’s a chain, they are constantly updating their menu and always use fresh ingredients. You are not going to find a thousand frozen eggrolls hiding in the freezer. Here we did a mini sampling of some of their best known entrees and were blown away with each one.
Best Grub Pick: Dali chicken. With just the right amount of spice, Changs takes a Chinese restaurant staple and turns it into something exciting.
Gordon Ramsay’s BurGR: Don’t let the big name fool you, even the head of a kitchen in hell needs a place to kick back and relax. Inside the Planet Hollywood, Chef Ramsay places his emphasis on fresh, and creates casual meals that you can really sink your teeth into. You won’t find any risotto here, but you will find some of the best burgers on the planet.
Best Grub Pick: Believe it or not, it’s a hot dog, the devil dog to be exact which is simmered in hot sauce before hitting an open grill. If this is Gordon’s relaxed side, we need to see more of it.
Fat Burger: Fat Burger is the perfect combo of old meets the future. This is the new millennium’s version of the soda shop, but with cool chrome décor that makes you feel like you just jumped light years ahead in time and are gonna get sat next to the Jetson’s. We were compelled to stick with the basic burgers here, served up with a generous portion of hot fries.
Best Grub Pick: Alcoholic slushies, do I really need to say more?
Serendipity 3: If you are traveling with kids to Vegas (sorry) this is one spot that they will love. Serendipity 3 is right in front of the Caesar Palace fountains with a soda fountain atmosphere. We just had to give the huge BBQ ribs a try, but the real reason we added this spot to the list was the desserts.
Best Grub Pick: The deep fried oreo sundae. If you are looking for a sugar rush in Vegas, this is where you are going to find it.
Even as Vegas grows into the culinary capital of the world, there are still plenty of places where posh is put aside for some plain old finger licking good food. Add these restaurants to your must tries the next time you touch down in Vegas. We promise you won’t regret it.
