5 Rounds of Strip-tastic Stays – A Side By Side Comparison of Vegas’ Mandalay Bay and Venetian Resorts
It’s a fight to the finish as one of the strip’s south side luxury hotels takes on a north side competitor. The Mandalay Bay and Venetian Resorts are two popular resorts for Vegas visitors, each with a distinct style, located at polar opposite ends of the strip. Having a hard time choosing between the two? We’ve broken down their features to help you pick where to hang your party hat on your next trip.
Round 1: A Bed, Bath and Separate Living Room
Mandalay Bay Suites - A king sized suite at the Mandalay has the living and bedroom completely separate, each with their own large screen TV and floor to ceiling windows with a view. Each room also has their own bath, but you only get to shower (or bathe) and shave in the one inside the bedroom.
Venetian Suites – Up at the Venetian a suite comes with a sunken living room rather than a separate one. The layout still makes this set up a cozy one, plus the TV in the bath helps to make up for the lack of privacy if staying with friends.
Who Gets Knocked Out? Although the décor is to die for, the Venetian loses hands down in the suite round. They are pricier than the Mandalay, yet you don’t get the same amount of space or comfort.
Round 2: Celebrity Spaghetti and Meatballs
Lupo at the Mandalay Bay – Wolfgang Puck’s first foray into Italian cuisine is an excellent one, showcasing a menu that takes wild chances with gourmet ingredients. The restaurant is open and airy, giving the impression that you truly are dining on your “pappardelle Bolognese” in the heart of Rome.
B&B Ristorante – Technically located in the Venetian-Palazzo Restaurant Row, B&B is an Italian cuisine connoisseurs dream. The restaurant looks elegant, yet feels casual enough to use your soft bread to suck up the last of your sauce. And believe us, no matter which “ragu” tops your pasta, you won’t want to leave one drop behind.
Who Gets Knocked Out? Batali and Bastianich sucker punch Puck to the mat in this one. Although both eateries have their spaghetti and balls recipes tied down tight, the extensive menu at B&B gives you more options to nosh on.
Round 3: Sing Along With Us
Michael Jackson One at the Mandalay Bay – It takes 63 performers and dancers to be able to channel the energy that made Michael Jackson the King of Pop. One is a celebration of his career, played out in a montage of visual and musical acts that will leave you breathless.
Human Nature Jukebox at the Venetian – Drop your quarters into this jukebox and be taken back decades in musical time. Talented artists take stage and belt out hits starting from the dawn of doo-wop ‘til today.
Who Gets Knocked Out? Round 3 is a tie, as both musical shows are exhilarating and fun, just set to please different audiences. Die hard fans of the gloved one should not miss out on One, but if you have more diverse tastes then you’ll have a better time listening to the jukebox.
Round 4: Where You Can Party Like a Vegaster
Light at Mandalay Bay – With the help of the Cirque du Soleil gurus, Mandalay Bay’s Light Nightclub is an incredible experience for all of your senses. Plus, you can’t go wrong with booked talent like Laidback Luke or Baauer.
Tao at the Venetian – Tao has been a part of the Vegas party zone for over ten years now, yet still feels as sexy as the first day it opened. Dance it out in one of their main rooms before cooling down with a cool view of the strip from the oversized outdoor terrace.
Who Gets Knocked Out? EDM fans will find this an easy choice, as the headlining DJs of Light make sure every punch driven is felt by Tao. If you are here for the music, then you will want to head into the Light.
Round 5: Unique Things to Do
Shark Reef Aquarium at the Mandalay Bay – Real sharks, turtles, rays and more are just a few floors away and waiting for you to stop by and feed them. This interactive exhibit inside of the hotel gives you a unique way to spend your day.
Gondola Rides at the Venetian – Authentic Parisian gondolas glide you across the waters of the man-made Grand Canal. Your guide during this water tour will even sing a song or two as you are paddled past the lovely Venetian streetscape.
Who Gets Knocked Out? We love the singing gondolier, and think he is a clear winner, even over sharks and other sea creatures. Sorry Mandalay, but the Venetian has you on the ropes for this one.
It’s a tough call for this middleweight match, as each of the contenders has their clear-cut strengths and very few weaknesses. No matter which you choose to call home for your Vegas vacation, you’ll come out a winner with Vegaster loaded on your phone!
