Is it Possible to Be Sophisticated in Las Vegas?
With the reputation that Vegas has, it is difficult to imagine anywhere were you can get dressed up and just enjoy a good drink. Ahh, but there is. The drinking capital of the world could not have earned that title if it was only catering to the beer and shots type of crowd.
So where can you get a perfectly mixed cocktail, shaken not stirred if you will, in a laid back and sophisticated kinda’ way?
Bound: The Cromwell opened with not nearly as much hoopla as other new hotels (SLS cough cough) and it is with that same understated flair that you will find their lobby bar. Gorgeous back drop and intimate setting aside, the real draw here is Salvatore Calebrese and his amazing skills at concocting refreshing and delicious cocktails from just about anything you would think of. Or better yet, not think of.
Red Square: There is something about the red and gold décor at the Red Square that makes you want to take your super spy glasses out. The name is not a mistake, the Red Square inside of the Mandalay is Russian through and through, right down to its vodka. (there’s a vault for that) Put on your favorite fur and enjoy dinner and a cocktail with a very distinct Russian experience.
Vesper Bar: Of course the Cosmopolitan is going to have one of the most sophisticated bars found in Vegas. Named for James Bond’s signature cocktail, Vesper whips up classic cocktails and incredible new mixes with zest. With amazing blends using ingredients like cinnamon and Mayan spices, you will have a hard time picking your own poison.
Downtown Cocktail Room: The classy bars are not just found inside the big hotels. The Downtown Cocktail Room stands alone, just a few steps away from the Fremont Street Experience. The only official speak-easy left in Vegas, DCR offers a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a hand crafted cocktail using seasonal ingredients. Sit back in a leather armchair and bask in the best that Vegas has to offer for a drinking venue that delivers both style and great tasting cocktails.
Commonwealth: If getting all Gatsby is your thing, the Commonwealth is the place for you. Bringing out the best of the roaring ‘20’s, this swank bar provides a time altering experience like no other. Crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling over rustic furnishings with a prohibition flair. Drinking is definitely not prohibited here, though where they serve classic cocktails and lazy libations in a truly unique venue.
You won’t find heavy beats and flashing lights at any of these sexy spots. These are the places you want to hang out in when you really want to hang out with people. Cozy seating, warm atmosphere and new and innovative ways to get your drunk on is what you will find when you take the time to visit the sophisticated side of Vegas.
