Save the Date: Celine Dion is Coming Home to Vegas
Proving that the heart does go on, Celine Dion will be back at the Colosseum at Caesars on August 27th after a year-long break. Tickets are already on sale, with shows running until mid January of next year.
Celine in Vegas
It has been 12 years since the show that was so big it needed its own Colosseum first debuted in Vegas. On March 23rd of 2003, Celine Dion began her first residency “A New Day” in the 4,000 seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which had been designed and built specifically to accommodate the diva’s show. Selling out routinely until the end of its run in 2007, “A New Day” became one of the most financially successful shows in Vegas history.
After 4 years of producing albums, touring, and making bucket loads of money, Celine returned to her Colosseum in March of 2011. Simply titled “Celine”, the new show made the Canadian songstress the “most profitable music act in Vegas” since Elvis Presley was last seen gyrating on stage.
In August of 2014, Celine announced that she would be taking a hiatus from her Caesars residency for an indefinite amount of time. Her husband and manager, Rene Angelil, was battling his second bout of cancer, and Celine wanted to devote her energies towards his recovery. Now with her husband and family’s full support, Celine Dion will be returning to her stage this August, under rumor that her residency has been extended into 2019.
I Drove All Night
For those who have seen the show in the past, there will be some noticeable changes and updates. Probably the most anticipated is the chance for Celine fans from around the world to make an appearance. This past June, it was announced that a video montage would be included as a part of the new show. People from all over the world were invited to send in videos of themselves singing or lip syncing their own rendition of the hugely popular “I Drove All Night” released in 2003.
The only conditions being that the video must show a recognizable landmark from the town it was shot in, and a red balloon be released between the singer and the camera at the end. A few select videos will be chosen to appear as a part of a video montage during Celine’s performance, but submissions were stopped being accepted on the 25th of July so unless you got yours in already your chance at 5 minutes of fame has already passed. We do suspect a new video for the song to be released, but this is pure speculation based on nothing more than us wanting to see it.
Even if you’re not a huge fan of her music, you will be awed by the incredible energy that the singer brings with each number during her show. Celine Dion has worked hard for decades to earn the superstar status that she deserves, and Las Vegas is lucky to have her. Even if you have to drive all night, this is the Vegas show that you don’t want to miss.
