Mat Franco Delivers his Unique Talent at the Linq
Las Vegas has its fair share of magic men and women, but none quite as eager as Mat Franco. The season nine “America’s Got Talent” winner has taken up residency at the Linq Hotel’s theater, breathing fresh life into the Vegas illusion scene.
Mat is no stranger to the Vegas stage. Having been inspired by magic when he was just 4, he saved his pennies and by the time he was 12 was in Vegas taking lessons from Jeff McBride. By 15 he was performing at the Riviera Hotel and Casino and doing the comedy college circuit before landing his big break on “America’s Got Talent”, winning the million buckaroo top prize along with a big chance at Vegas stardom. Afterwards he was a part of the “America’s Got Talent” live show, which brought him back to Vegas, headlining winners from multiple seasons at the Planet Hollywood’s Axis theater.
Mat may be the first magician to win at “America’s Got Talent”, but he’s not the only winner of the show hanging around Las Vegas. Season 2 winner and very funny guy Terry Fator does his comedy thing at the Mirage, and has already won Best of Las Vegas accolades. His one man-multi puppet act is full of belly laughs and awes as he goes through a gambit of singing and celebrity impersonations, including one of Lady Gaga that will have you ROFLYAO.
Rhode Island native Mat began wowing audiences at the Linq this past August, using the same slight of hand and trickery that he used to win over Howie and Mel on “America’s Got Talent”. The show, titled “Mat Franco: Magic Reinvented Nightly” is an excursion into illusion delivered with a big touch of that cool comic edge that helped him win the grand prize.
Connecting his magic seamlessly with the audience, each show feels like improv, making for a completely unique show no matter how many times you go. The newly renovated Linq theater provides the cozy atmosphere that Mat needs to stay connected with his fans as he takes them on his magical journey. This is the first act to showcase in this new theater, and it’s just the right size to play host to such an intimate affair.
It’s always a joy when someone new and talented takes the stage in Vegas, and the baby-faced Mat Franco is no exception. America certainly does have talent, and Las Vegas is lucky to at least have Mat and Terry showing that off on its stages.
